Classical Academic Press Review……
Okay people, I feel I need to come clean before I start this review……I am going into this one with bias. I have always loved everything this company comes out with…….well at least everything that I have got my hot little hands on.
I was sent “The Argument Builder, Constructing an Argument Piece by Piece.” And I was sent the teacher edition and the student edition; both are paperback books. These books are from their Logic curriculum.
~ The Argument Builder, Teacher’s Edition $24.95
~ The Argument Builder $21.95
Their Logic curriculum line-up is as follows: (from their website)
~ The Art of Argument:“Young teens are also targeted by advertisers with a vengeance. From billboards to commercials to a walk down the mall, fallacious arguments are everywhere you look. The Art of Argument was designed to teach the argumentative adolescent how to reason with clarity, relevance and purpose at a time when he has a penchant for the “why” and “how”. It is designed to equip and sharpen young minds as they live, play, and grow in this highly commercial culture.”
~ The Argument Builder:” enables students to find and identify fallacies in various kinds of writing and speech, trains students to build their own sound and persuasive arguments. Written in a conversational, humorous, and easy to understand style, the text is a blend of logic and rhetoric—students first study the logical structure of good arguments and then study how to use several lines of argument (a.k.a., the common topics, first invented by Aristotle) including examples, analogy, comparison, testimony, and statistics, and layer them together into a strong whole.”
~ The Discovery of Deduction:“An Introduction to Formal Logic . Formal logic studies how an argument is put together—the form or structure of an argument. This is geared directly toward students as young as eighth grade, making a subject usually reserved for study in college accessible and relevant to junior–high age, logic stage students. It is intended to emphasize the practical and real-world application of soundly structured, deductive logic. Using methods such as Socratic dialogue, ample discussion, and integration of other subjects, it teaches the ways in which these dialectic students learn best.”
“The Argument Builder, Constructing an Argument Piece by Piece.”
Now, What did we think you ask?….another hit! Honestly! I wish I would have received the first set too; with those you can get DVD’s to do along with the book set. ~smile~ We are already passed that “level” of logic, but they do such a great job it looks so much fun we wouldn’t mind repeating it!!……I watched one of their youtube videos, too cool! Drew and I would have really enjoyed that course. —–>So yeah, two thumbs up people! Like I said Classical Academic Press….they just seem to have …..”It”, ya know?
As always please go see what the other Crew Mates thought of Classical Academic Press. We are such a diverse group….ya never know what we are thinking ~giggle~ Just click HERE!! And don’t forget, we were not all sent the same curriculum.
And remember –I received this Logic Set in exchange for my honest opinion and review/blog post. And nothing else …..zip, zilch, nada, and what-ever else, yadda-yadda ~smile~
